Tear trough and under-eye filler

Under-eye hollows and a tear trough groove can make you look tired when you are not. At Lakewood Med Spa, Dr. Rajan Kohli, MD examines the eye area first, because filler helps some under-eye concerns and is the wrong tool for others.

What tear trough filler does
The tear trough is the groove that runs from the inner corner of the eye down toward the cheek. As fat and bone volume change with age, that groove can deepen and cast a shadow that reads as dark circles or puffiness.
A small amount of filler placed with a cannula can soften the groove and reduce the shadow. The under-eye skin is thin and sits close to delicate blood vessels, so careful technique and conservative amounts matter more here than almost anywhere else on the face.
When filler is not the answer
Dark circles have several causes. Hollowing responds to filler. Brown pigment is better treated with pigment-targeting lasers or topicals, thin crepey skin may suit skin-quality treatments, and true fat bags may need a surgical opinion. Dr. Kohli will tell you which one you have. Our dark circles page explains the differences in more detail.

Frequently asked questions
Tear trough filler questions
How much does tear trough filler cost in Dallas?
Under-eye and tear trough filler at Lakewood Med Spa is $950 per syringe, and the physician consultation has no charge. PRF under the eyes with a cannula is $699. Dr. Kohli estimates how much you need at your visit before any treatment.
Is under-eye filler safe?
It is a well-established treatment when done by an experienced injector, but the area is delicate. Risks include swelling, bruising, lumps, a bluish tint and, rarely, serious vascular complications. Ask how your injector manages complications, and expect to hear the plan before you begin.
Will filler get rid of my dark circles?
Only if they are caused by hollowing and shadow. Filler does not remove brown pigment or change thin, discolored skin. Dr. Kohli examines the area and tells you whether filler, a laser, a skin-quality treatment or nothing is the better choice.
What is PRF under-eye treatment?
Platelet-rich fibrin is made from a small sample of your own blood and placed under the eyes with a cannula to support the skin and reduce hollows and fine lines gradually. It is a different approach from filler, and a consultation can compare the two for your anatomy.
How long does under-eye filler last?
Duration depends on the product, the area and your body, and it can range from many months to over a year. Dr. Kohli explains what to expect for the product chosen for you and when a touch-up makes sense.
Is there downtime after tear trough filler?
Most people can go back to normal activities the same day. Swelling and bruising are common and usually settle over several days to two weeks, so it is wise to avoid scheduling it right before an important event.
Results vary and no treatment is guaranteed to give a particular outcome. See also all dermal filler options.
